At Aurubis, environmental protection is an elementary part of corporate policy. Throughout the Group, Aurubis is a leader in environmental protection when compared internationally.

Significant investment in environmental protection and the continuous improvement of plant technologies has enabled, for instance, dust emissions in copper production to be reduced by over 90 % since 2000. 

Sustainable development, such as the conservation of resources by recycling and – as far as possible – the complete utilisation of raw materials by transferring them into new products is a high priority for Aurubis.

As an energy-intensive company, particular importance is attributed to increasing energy efficiency and reducing CO₂ emissions. The continuous improvement in water protection, soil protection and the ambient air quality are key targets in the environmental protection sector.

In 2009 Aurubis published a Sustainability Report for the reporting period of 2008. The report is oriented to the guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative on sustainability reporting (GRI) and can be downloaded here. 

In 2011 we released a new Group Environmental Report that took into account the fact that the Aurubis Group has grown. 

In addition to the consolidated Environmental Declarations of the Hamburg and Lunen sites, the report contains accounts of the environmental achievements of all of the other Group companies.
